Capclave 2002

The Washington Science Fiction Association is pleased to announce Capclave 2002. Our last convention was so much fun that we're doing it again.

Capclave 2002 will take place on October 18 - 20, 2002 at the Hilton Silver Spring. We are continuing our focus on science fiction short stories.

If the hotel has told you there are no rooms left, please try again. As of September 26th, we've arranged for a larger room block.

The membership rate is $30 until September 3rd, $35 through October 12th, and then $40 at the door.

Capclave Activities

We are modeling this year's convention on last year's Capclave. We will have some more space so will have even more fun. Like last year, we will focus on short stories in science fiction and fantasy. This means we will feature:

We'll also try to find room for other activities such as gaming, filking, local club meetings, etc. Please send space allocation requests to space@capclave.org.

Capclave Programming

Like last year, Capclave will include innovative programing centered around our theme of short speculative fiction. It will feature our Guest of Honor, Stanley Schmidt, and other notable authors, editors, and fans of the short fiction form exploring short fantasy and science fiction stories.

Capclave is pleased to announce the current list of science fiction writers, editors, and scientists who are confirmed program participants.

More writers and editors have been invited. This list will be updated as more people agree to attend.

Hotel Information

Capclave will be held at the Hilton Silver Spring. It is in Silver Spring (oddly enough) at 8727 Colesville Road, Silver Spring, Maryland 20910. Please note that this is a different (and bigger) hotel than last year's location. It's a newly renovated property located in downtown Silver Spring, just inside the Capital Beltway and within walking distance of the Metro. Rooms are $89/night. Suites are $119/night. To book, call the hotel at 301-589-5200 (or fax to 301-588-1841) and use the code CAPCLAVE. If you have any difficulties please let Elspeth Kovar know.

Directions are here.

Party Information

Capclave is a social convention, so we hope many people will host parties in the evening. Please register your party with Elspeth Kovar. You must do this ahead of time. For blocking rooms together please contact Elspeth in advance.
